Our Production

Let us tell you why our production is so special to us...

Karen's been in this industry for 50 years.

She remembers a time where the majority of production was done on shore. Where fabrics were knitted and woven domestically, where all design and development work was done in house and where the production of the garments was predominantly done locally. A time when the Australian textile industry was protected by the government enforcing quotas and tariffs on off shore production.

Now, as we all know...that changed drastically with a change in priority by the government, the majority of the work then going off shore and the Australian textile industry now lacking the capability to do a lot of those things anymore.

BUT we love that there's a movement to bring Australian made back, and while there's still a whole lot of limitations on what we can actually do here, our handmade to order production model is an effort from us to contribute to the movement.

Our pieces are designed, developed and individually handmade in Melbourne using the most beautiful fabrics we can find, some of which are also knitted here in Melbourne. We work with local suppliers, makers and artisans and are constantly expanding our network to make our production as sustainable as possible.

A true blast from the past, but in the best way possible 🇦🇺

Step 1

Design

We design from scratch in house. This includes all pattern drafting, sampling, fitting...often done in the comfort of our lounge room. Endless fittings and tweaks are made until Karen is happy and confident with the fit.

Step 2

Fabric

Sourcing fabrics is one of our favourite parts - we have multiple suppliers around Melbourne we buy from, and often we're buying the last of stock that they no longer need. Saving fabric from landfill and turning them into beautiful clothing is our favourite pasttime.

Step 3

Trims

Depending on the style, there are certain processes each garment needs to go through, all of which are done locally in Melbourne. If the piece requires self covered buttons, we head to Brunswick. Or if we need bulk button holes done, you'll find us in Coburg. Whatever the design needs, we get it done.

Step 4

Production

Our pieces are all individually handcut and sewn just for you. Hand-making the garments after an order is placed means we only cut the sizes you actually want and we're never left with deadstock, plus it means your size is always in stock as long as the fabric is available. It's a win win for everyone!

Steps 1 and 2 are completed before a style is released, but steps 3 and 4 are done once the order is placed. This is key - it's what ensures we're able to stay as sustainable as possible 💗
